During her Residency, Kern uses Art Space 1 as a site of production for her new installation, Guest, which will develop and change over the course of exhibition. This follows her two month residency in Berlin where she investigated the organised mass labour migration from socialist Yugoslavia to capitalist West Germany in the late 1960s. Mainly female, these ’guest workers' (Gastarbeiter) were employed by large companies, and often never returned home.
