In a break with tradition, this year will see the Rain or Shine Theatre Company returning to Manor Farm, Corsley, on Saturday 12th June to perform Oscars Wildes’ classic comedy of manners, morals and morality !... “The Importance of Being Earnest !” When two Victorian gentlemen assume the name of ‘Ernest’ to win the affections of two ladies, both determined to marry a man of that name, the scene is set for hilarious confusion in a world of handbags, perambulators, cucumber sandwiches, muffins, butlers, the English upper class, and of course, that theatrical tour de force – Lady Bracknell The Gloucester based Rain or Shine return for their 8th year at the historical Manor Farm in Corsley, once frequented by Sir Walter Raleigh when out of favour at Court, to perform another open air classic comedy. In the past they have produced works by Shakespeare, Sheridan, Goldsmith and Vanbrugh to tens of thousands of happy theatregoers since they formed in 1998. The evening is sure to be another sell-out success, combining drama, setting and the opportunity to savour a delicious pre performance two course supper, served by wenches and serenaded by a fiddler and Victorian Street Organ! For one night only, The Brighton Bell Inn will serve the needs of the thirsty audience. Gardens open 6.30pm. The supper will be served from 6.30pm -7.30pm and the performance is 8pm.
